Young Alumni Outreach

OWU Alumni Association reaches out - Connecting with Young Alumni and Current Students:

The OWU Alumni Association and Alumni Relations Office have committed to improving the resources and outreach for young alumni and current students through the recent development of a Young Alumni and Student Relations Coordinator.  We have developed a variety of new programs designed to engage each group.  University Advancement trends have  shown, young alumni programming sets a foundation for continued involvement and engagement with the university, translating to on-going volunteerism and giving, while student programming creates a connection with our next generation of alums and helps create a smooth, seamless transition from student to alum.

In an effort to touch each class, individually, in addition to the entire campus, we have developed and/or adjusted several programs.  Working in conjunction with the Student Alumni Committee, student body, and several departments on campus three new events were hosted this spring.  At the Senior Reception we honored our seniors transitioning into our alumni family.  The Alumni Board of Directors hosted an All Student Ice Cream Social allowing students and alumni to interact and network while increasing visibility on campus.  The Sophomore Half Way There Celebration was a big hit, providing recognition to the class for their accomplishments thus far and promoting the resources we have to offer them in the years to come. Several other programs are in the works for the 2008-09 academic year including a freshmen gift from the Alumni Association, increased involvement during homecoming, a junior class bbq and class picture, and much more!

Young Alumni outreach is in progress as well!  In SP08icecreamsocialcollaboration with Career Services "OWU to YOU" was hosted on campus, facilitating conversation between students and young alumni about the transition to the real world.  Off campus, we have focused on 4 major cities; Columbus, Cleveland, DC, and New York.  Event calendars are in the works and kick off events are in their planning stages, to be held in late spring.  Active young alumni have been identified and enlisted in programming for each city which enables us to cater to our specific constituencies' and allows multiple opportunities to engage young alumni on a higher level with planning.   In 2009, we intend to add Cincinnati, Chicago, Akron, and Boston to our city list.  By focusing our outreach efforts in these 8 select cities we will be connecting and providing opportunities for involvement for 52% of our young alumni population in the first 2 years of the program.

Keep your eyes peeled for more new and exciting events and programs from our office including a Young Alumni website!
