Faculty and Staff Forum

After traveling the country and being in contact with many of the 35,000 alumni worldwide, one thing is clear, the faculty and staff of Ohio Wesleyan shape the lives of our graduates well into the future and this forum will hopefully provide an outlet for alumni to continue to make that connection and stay on top of how OWU faculty and staff continue to transform lives.

Meet Rusty McClure '72
Economics Instructor

Crosley

Name: Rusty McClure

How long have you been at OWU: I graduated in 1972 and returned to guest lecture about 1988.

Office Location: Dublin

Hometown: Cincinnati

Family members/children/pets: Amy Anderson '72 McClure and I are both third generation legacies. She is the chair of the education department. One daughter is a sophomore at Wittenberg; the other is in high school.

What do you do at OWU: I teach the spring Entrepreneur class and guest lecture for John Boos in his fall and summer Entrepreneur classes in the Economics/Mgt Department.

What attracted you to your position at OWU: I wanted to give back to the next generation of OWU students, I have a passion for the entrepreneur's life and some of my best teachers were real-world practioners and I hoped I could make a similar impact. Additionally, John Boos had confidence that I could do it.

What are some of the projects you are working on outside of the office/classroom: Since selling my business in 2000, I have accumulated a portfolio diversified entrepreneurial projects. Some are start-ups. I also help people buy and sell businesses. I just published an entrepreneurial biography: CROSLEY and am working on another book.

How would you describe today's students: Most of the students I get are eager to learn how they can play a role in the free enterprise system; a few are rebel throwbacks to the ‘60's. I try to show all how they might become independent and constructive rebels.

How do you feel alumni can best help with the advancement of your department or OWU as a whole: For now, implore the decision-makers to get it right this time when hiring a new president: someone who genuinely likes OWU, understands how to run a small university, has people skills..... has a clear vision what this place is about .... its heritage and its place in the future. Beyond this key-critical need, alumni should return to campus and contribute: your time, your talents, your passion and your resources.

What is your favorite spot on campus: The Delt house where I first met my wife when we were freshmen and the Selby Stadium track where I ran the 800.

What is your favorite OWU tradition: Noon basketball and throwing people in sulphur spring to commemorate special events in their lives.
