![]() OWU Legends Take the Field Again in the 6th Annual Florida Lacrosse Classic The OWU Legends (OWU lacrosse alumni) took the field once again in an extended weekend to complete in the 6th Annual Florida Lacrosse Classic held January 19-21 in the Ft. Lauderdale/Weston area. The Legends, traveling from across the nation, managed to represent themselves fairly well during the 3-day tournament, under beautiful skies, and warm Florida temperatures. In the Grand Masters division (players over age 45), a joint effort of the OWU Legends/Touch of Gray rosters teamed together and had a competitive outing and ended up the tournament with a 2-2 record. In the Super Grand Masters Division (players over age 52) OWU lacrosse alumni, under the banner of “Olde WU Legends” regained respect after a 2-4 outing in 2006. Having won the Super Grand Masters Division Championship in the 2005, “The Legends” were anxious to prove themselves once again in a field of 7 teams. In Friday’s games, The “Olde WU Legends” won the first two games, and were again, victorious in their first outing on Saturday. However, in a closely contested game against the Cloud Splitter’s in the second game, The “Olde WU Legends” would come up short by the score of 4-2. With a true competitive spirit, The “Olde WU Legends” won the first game on Sunday, and played outstanding lacrosse in the finale. Coming from behind in the second half, The “Olde WU Legends” shut out Mr. Boh/Nacho Mama 6-0 and won by a final score of 7-5. This victory earned “Olde WU Legends” a second place finish and a tournament trophy gladly accepted by team captain, Steve Corrigan ’74 on behalf of the OWU lacrosse alumni. Stepping on the field wearing the Red & Black for the Florida Lacrosse Classic tournament were the following “youngsters”: Steve Corrigan, Charlie Hartigan ’77, Brian Kingston ‘78, Mark Shipps ’70, Paul Myers ’74, Fred Watkins ’74, John Narwicz ’74, Chuck Narwicz ’77, and Pete Lee ’65. The weekend was filled wonderful weather, camaraderie, fun, laughter, and the obligatory “tail-gates” with support and class added by University staffer, alumna Annie Griffith Seiler ’75, and alumni spouses Marion Myers ’77, Denise Watkins ’74 and Ginny Shipps ’70. OWU lacrosse alumni had the opportunity to spend some quality time between games with the “First Lady of OWU Lacrosse” Sylvia Myers Willoughby who traveled from Ocala to see “her boys” on the field of play. The Legends are looking forward to the 2007 Lake Placid Tournament in August. Please contact Steve Corrigan or Pete Lee if you’re interested in playing on any of the Legends teams (Open Division, Masters, Grand Masters and Super Grand Masters): stevecorrigan2@hotmail.com or joetteandpete@aol.com.
